  • No Voltage Reading: If you don’t see a voltage reading when the ignition is on, the wire you’re testing isn’t a switched ignition wire. Move on to the next suspect wire and repeat the test.

  • 12 Volts Detected: If you see a voltage close to 12 volts (usually slightly above 11.5 volts), you’ve found the switched ignition wire. Ensure this voltage appears only when the ignition is in the "On" position and drops to zero when the ignition is off.

7. Verify and Secure

Once you identify the correct wire:

  • Double-Check: It’s a good idea to re-test to ensure consistency. Confirm the wire maintains the 12-volt reading with the ignition on and drops when turned off.

  • Secure the Connection: Use electrical tape or wire connectors to secure the GPS device’s power wire to the identified ignition wire. Ensure all connections are secure and insulated to prevent short circuits.
